This book was a surprise to me. I had read one of Mathie’s memoir books and enjoyed it immensely so thought I’d give this a try. I do not read spy novels, as a rule, because I find them too hard-bitten and often the characters are too tough.
Not this book. It is full of characters that are believable and have depth and warmth. This in no way takes away from a story that includes intrigue, danger, and has the complexity and detailed plot spy lovers will be able to dig their teeth into. It kept me guessing and on my toes the entire time. The characters have not one, but two missions to resolve. Mathie weaves the two together seamlessly and believably.
Mathie weaves his quirky sense of humour into the tale that adds to both the development of the characters and my enjoyment of the book. The title is an example – a great double intender.
I recommend this to all readers of good fiction. Don’t like spy novels? Read it anyway. You’ll love it as much as I did. I read it in one sitting.
