Yvonne, I couldn’t find a way to reply on the actual blog, so I hope you find this here. #1: Flowery prose is purple prose, and purple prose is NEVER a good idea in writing! So you do the right thing, sticking to your own style of writing. As for changing a word to make it bigger–why? Usually, the word that first comes to mind is the right word to use, and if that word is only 5 letters long or if it’s 15 letters long, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that it conveys the right meaning. So, follow your gut. You’re doing just fine!
